RATIONALE

The Museum in Motion is a New York City-based creative media museum  (rebranded from The Museum of The Moving Image). Open to visitors of all ages, it features a range of entertaining and interactive displays. The museum’s relatively new building, as well as the concept of movement, influenced the design choices. The goal was to create a dynamic logo that showcases all of the museum’s activities while highlighting its main message: Discover, play, present, and create.

The Museum in Motion’s rebrand includes three collectible tote bags, a bold and vibrant t-shirt, uniquely designed tickets, modern stationery, and a user-friendly website. 

Each item reflects the museum’s dynamic and ever-changing exhibits, enhancing its brand presence and promoting creativity and innovation.

PHASE 1: RESEARCH

  • The Museum of the Moving Image is located in Queens New York and was first opened in 1988. It specializes in helping people form a better understanding and appreciation of history, art, film, television, and digital media.

    The museum holds both temporary and permanent exhibitions that help achieve this goal.

  • I took inspiration from the geometric look of the new building as well as the idea of movement when sketching my first logo…

PHASE 2: LOGO TRANSFORMATION

  • The logo I created here was clever, however, when it came to sizing down to implement it on brand items it started to become a problem…

  • I simplified the logo by shortening it, and making it look more modern.

  • I introduced new fun, vibrant, and complementing colors to fit with the museum’s overall brand!
